Our Story
Every woman who makes up the board of Bellissima Sanctuary, is an abuse survivor, including some who have experienced sexual assault. We want to provide the help and resources to others that we did not necessarily receive.
Our Survivor’s Resource Closet will provide Black females and their children, who are survivors of Intimate Partner Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, and Human Trafficking, with clothing and personal hygiene products. Access to these essential daily care items will offer a sense of normalcy and security, for families who are working to establish a safe and stable home after leaving abusive situations.
Often, Women of Color are not believed when it comes to Domestic Abuse and Sexual Assault. Bellissima Sanctuary is committed to solving the problem of insufficient support and protection for female survivors of the African Diaspora, and their children. We will work to end the systemic bias and ensure there are safe spaces, for these Women and their children, where their voices will be heard and amplified.
Our Founder’s Story and Message
My name is Teffani DuPont-Anderson, I am the Founder and President of Bellissima Sanctuary.
I know what it’s like to be in an abusive relationship. In 2008, I drove over 500 miles with my son, to get away from my abuser and start over in safety and love. I know first hand from my work with Domestic Violence Survivors that not everyone has a safe haven of love or unconditional family support. This is what I want to change. This has been my number one goal and priority ever since I had the vision of creating Bellissima Sanctuary.
It hurts my heart and pains my soul whenever I see, hear or read about another woman being the victim of Domestic Violence, Human Trafficking, orSexual Violence.
Want to make a difference?
Bellissima Sanctuary’s ultimate goal is to provide resource centers, housing and shelters around the Metro Detroit area specifically for women and female presenting persons of the African Diaspora.
